"If some of these translations give the impression that it takes a whole Auca sentence to translate one English word, or a paragraph to translate one English sentence—that impression is often true!"
Pamphlet of the Gospel of Mark in Auca. Paper, 5” x 8", 8 pages (1 blank). Ca. July 1964. This pamphlet was similar to others printed by Wycliffe Bible Translators and circulated among their staff to help in linguistic work. The publication consists entirely, except for a brief introduction, of excerpts from a letter by Peeke, illustrating some of the linguistic and cultural problems involved in translating the Bible into Wao and the thought she put into her work. The translation she is referring to was done by Rachel Saint. Later, it was essentially redone by Peeke. From BGC Archives, Collection 349, Oversize Drawer 1, Waorani Articles. Front cover below.
